Pediatric Dentists are dentists who have had at least 2 years of additional training after becoming a general dentist. Although some general dentists are comfortable and able to provide care for children, pediatric dentists are specifically trained to use a variety of behavior management and pharmacological techniques to provide quality dental care to children. It may help to think of a General Dentist to be similar to a Family Physician and Pediatric Dentist being similar to a Pediatrician. Pediatric Dentists are specialists trained to address the specific needs of children, teenagers, and the medically compromised.
